"Hit in the Rear" September 1st, 2008

Darin, Karidee and I came back home to Yuma for a few days while Darin finished off this week of work before "Hot Sticks" training. We left late afternoon on Monday and made the mini-long distance drive back home. The trip took longer than it used too, but that's because we made longer stops to accomodate the needs of our gorgeous Karidee. We made it to Yuma safe and sound, and stopped at the store for some items to help make the new mommy me more comfortable. On the way home from the store we got rear ended by another truck. We were stopped at a red light and suddenly felt the truck lunge forward and heard the sound of crunching metal. As parents our first concern was Karidee, who was sound asleep and still was asleep even after the hit. I was sitting in the back with her and noticed that her car seat didn't even budge when the truck hit us. Fortunately there was a county sheriff behind the girl in the truck who witnessed the whole thing and called the cops. The girl was noted at fault and given a citation. Darin and I were still worried about our little girl, even though at that point she was wide awake and moving all of her limbs perfectly fine, so we took her to the ER to get checked out just in case. The doctor said Karidee was fine and good... thank goodness! Darin, however said he had a headache, neck ache and back ache... so they threw on a neck brace, sat him in a wheel chair and took him off to triage. Talk about some unwanted attention. The poor guy was so annoyed! It took five hours for them to run all the necessary tests to check for any body damages. The results came back as Darin having minor neck and back strain and possilby some pulled muscles. Karidee was such a trooper too... she just sat there quietly or slept and made it very easy on her mom. We got home about 2:30am and our precious angel decided it was time to party the rest of the early morning until 6:30am, when she finally fell asleep. It's okay though, we love her so much. We were able to see her pediatrician and he checked her over again and said she looked great and her movements were good. She's very alert, stong, healthy and beautiful. Yay for good news! She's gained 3 oz since last Thursday and looks so pretty! So there you have it... our first scare as a new family. We made it through though, thanks to Heavenly Father and the many prayers we said throught out the night!
